Information for Counselors

Counselors’ duties begin on Friday, August 1, 2008. Counselors are expected to arrive mid-day at Houghton College to get settled in and help with pre-camp responsibilities. On Saturday, counselors will be assigned to registration. Following registration, counselors will assume responsibility for no more than 10 campers. Throughout the week, counselors are responsible to know where their campers are at all times, including when the campers are in class, ensemble, or concert. Counselors walk between buildings with their campers, sleep in the dorm with their campers (in their own room), enforce bedtimes, and monitor student behavior. Three counselors will be assigned as Conductor Assistants. The remaining counselors will be assigned one large ensemble to play in (instrument appropriate). Counselors will attend once daily counselor meetings before lunch. Counselors will be encouraged to observe classes/ensembles, and assigned where campers’ needs necessitate. Counselors will be accountable to Head Counselors and the Camp Director. Counselor duties conclude on August 9th after the campers in their charge have been released to their parents. Counselor honorarium will be available for pick up at the conclusion of camp.
